Nowadays, Social Media are full of information and sometimes they are the more used information media. However, it has been several years since a typical phenomenon has infected social media, fake news.

First of all, what is a fake news ? A fake news or disinformation is an incorrect information shared on purpose and tactically. It is explicitly intended to cause confusion or to lead the target audience to believe a lie, or even sometimes people do it for fun.

There is also a difference between disinformation, and misinformation. Misinformation sometimes refers to an “honest mistake”, for example when an article written by a generally reputable media property includes an error and it spreads organically.
Today, most of social media platforms are trying to fight fake news. Now, when you see one of them on social media, you can directly report it and in most of the times, if it is a disinformation, it is blocked from the platform. But once something is on the internet, it is oftenly difficult to remove it.

Right now, we have to help those platforms and fight those fake news, it is for our well being, and for not to be taken for fools. So, the one thing you can do to help the cause is simple, check before you share ! Take the extra few seconds to look over the source, or go read the article in full to make sure what you just read is true. It will be better for you and your knowledge.
