Social Media and their benefits

As social media have become a big part of our social life, some people would say that they are a lot of negative aspects of those social media, but the truth is that they brought much more benefits than negative aspects.

First of all, there is an obvious benefit with social media, which is that they allow us to develop social relations or even to keep in touch with people that are far away. It can be from your family members that are living abroad, or it can also be friends living in another city that you met on holidays.

Social media helps us to send them messages, call them, share some content with them... Also, social media allows their users to develop their own identity on those platforms, for example, on Instagram, you are choosing what you post on your page, and you can create a whole identity through all the content you are posting.

The fact that you can create your identity develops also the creativity of the users through the creation and sharing of content.

The social media also develop our openness, the fact that we see a lot of different things and from different communities, on those social media, accustoms us to things or ideas, that we are not used to see or talk about with our friends or family.

One of the biggest benefits with social media nowadays, is that they help people to create a cause, a movement, and to share it globally.

We can take the example of the movement #MeToo, this hashtag has been created a long time ago by an American feminist, and has been re-used more recently to denounce sexual assaults and harassments. This movement has allowed women from everywhere in the world free their speech and to stand for something they are affected by.

Therefore, we see that those social media are full of benefits for their users, so let’s try to focus on what they can bring to us too rather than in what sense they are harmful for us.
