The Body Shaming

Dernière mise à jour : 11 mai 2020

The action or practice of humiliating someone by making mocking or critical comments about their body shape or size. That’s the definition that illustrates what body shaming is.

Thighs thought to be too big or stretch marks on online photos, and it’s a flood of humiliating comments. Nearly one in three Frenchmen have been victims of this phenomenon.

Social networks, websites, newspapers and television only talk about him. Him? The body shaming, this new fashion for frustrated people who are poorly assumed, consisting in humiliating someone because of his body, whatever it is.

On the internet now appear fat shaming (the rounds), slut shaming (the supposedly “easy” girls), skinny shaming (the skinny ones), and many many other ideas to humiliate one’s fellow…

The emergence of social networks has given way to this new unmanageable phenomenon. From now on, we see many influencers proudly displaying their body goals by promoting the culture of the body and universal beauty.

The University of Pennsylvania published the results of its research in the medical journal Obesity. The researchers interviewed 159 obese women, all volunteers.

First, they defined the degree of body and fat shaming they experienced on a daily basis, in their social life but also on social networks.

They also explained how much these remarks that are heard or read can be an impact on their morale.

It show us how frustrating and disgusting social networks can be because of social pressure.

So ladies, Love Your Body as it is !

An article well written that denounces the facts. It's a shame to judge people on their appearance and make fun of them especially when it's behind a screen. But as the article says, love yourself as you are !

It's a shame to see that social media can be so badly used. Hopefully, the system of those medias remind me of the operation of the human antibodies. They fight back the infection until they get rid of it. That's what appears on social media more and more this day, account created to mock the standards of society, this idea of "perfect beauty".

Thank you for this article, it was instructive.
