Black Mirror Analysis #2

Last time, we have talked about the cyberbulling who’s provocated by rumors, however hacking have also a part on it.

By the pleasure of poking around in other people’s lives, to have informations about someone or to pretend to be the star in question, it goes everywhere. But it can be worse of that, mixed the harassment.

Some have fun threatening others by promising to divulge their most intimate secrets if they don't do what they want. Not only is it harassment, it's an invasion of privacy... how would you feel about that?

That's what the episode of "Shut Up and Dance" is about.

Kenny, a young teenager, sees his life turned into disaster when an unknow person orders him to make what he wants, at the risk of divulging his little pleasure he did in front of the computer if he doesn't obey.

Ashamed and scared, Kenny doesn't want anyone to know about it and carries out all the instructions. We see by this that he is trapped and does not know how to escape.

It also reminds us of the movie Love, Simon.

Simon, this young homosexual man, doesn't dare to say how he really feels about boys ; that's his secret.

But he soon finds himself trapped when a classmate threatens to disclose his discussion with his crush and that he likes boys, if he doesn't help him get in a relationship with one of his best friends.

Because of that, Simon gets tangled up in his lies, fights with his friends and loses their trust for a moment.

As you can see, that can destroy people’s life in every circumstances. No one is spared and even celebrities pay for it sometimes : we remember Bella Thorne who proved her courage by not allowing herself to be intimidated by this threatening stranger and by showing her compromising photos herself on Twitter.

The moral of all this is that you have to take care of yourself, of what you do and how you do it. This kind of thing happens very quickly and can complicate your life easily.

Don't let anyone hurt you or have power over you.

This kind of think really represent a difficult situation. The fact is, in a way, we ourselves, give the power to others to manipulate us sometimes. We just have to be ourselves and assume it. So it seam fairly easy if we see it like that, with an external point of view. But in fact it's not really, and sometimes people us desperate measures, because they think they're really in a hopeless situation. They feel trapped, and for them, there's just no way to get out. Thank you for showing us that, I think it's important, it was a good article.
